20 Songs for an Awesome Baby Shower Playlist

Have you ever been to a get-together at someone’s house where they don’t have music playing in the background?

And then the lull comes.

It’s super quiet and no one’s saying anything, so you stare at the floor. You glance up real quick, but the lull continues, so you look down at your lap. Still no one’s saying anything, and you can sense everyone else’s eyeballs trying to settle on the least awkward thing, and you find yourself focusing on that weird stain on the kitchen counter that looks kind of like a uterus.

This is why you need music.

Add to that the unique brand of uncomfortableness that a baby shower brings with those blasted games, oohing-and-aahing at every lame gift, and the lack of alcohol – and did I mention the games? – and you REALLY need music.

20 Baby Shower Songs

I helped plan a baby shower recently, and my job was to provide the playlist. But when I searched online, the baby shower music I found consisted of:

  1. Songs with “baby” in the title, or
  2. Saccharine sweet kids’ music

The first approach gives you Baby Got Back, and the second makes the attendees gag. Not to mention the guest of honor. She has years of cheesy kids’ music ahead of her – why subject her to it earlier than necessary?

So I put together a new and improved baby shower playlist.

While the songs aren’t necessarily about babies and kids, their lyrics are sweet without being gag-worthy. Plus, this playlist is upbeat and contemporary. Just add in your own favorite recent music to get hours and hours of tunes to combat the baby shower awkwardness. Or: Just put this batch on repeat and consider it done.

You may even find yourself listening to it well after the baby shower – I did!

I agree – this is the list I didn’t know I was looking for! Thank you so much for putting this together!Other playlists were too cheesy for me. I added a few:
    Feist – 1234, Mushaboom
Jack Johnson – Better Together, Angel, Lullabye
    Edward Sharpe – Home
Michael Buble – Dream a Little Dream
But I only thought of these after your inspiration! Thanks again!

  • http://JimmyWendt.com/ Jim Wendt

Here’s a song just released on iTunes in November: “Father Daughter Song It’s Your World” by yours truly, Jimmy Wendt. Rockin’ upbeat song dedicated to my two amazing girls. The lyrics start with:

    Welcome home, glad you’re here.
It’s a fragile world but have no fear.
I will love you all that I can.
Look up at me, squeeze my hand…

  • rec Eduardo

Great list….add “safe and sound”–capital cities and “I’ll be there” by M.Jackson.

  • Bonnie

I love this playlist. I would definitly add Take your time girl from Niels Geusebroek. I dont think you know it but it was a hit here in the netherlands and the melody is to the heartbeat of an unborn baby.

  • Ahmed-Egypt

Will definitely use most of these songs in my upcoming baby shower this Friday, wish me luck!! Thank you so much! Love from Egypt :)))

  • Susie Huffman Martinson

Teach your children by Crosby Stills and Nash. Have to add it for nostalgias sake it’s one of my faves. Lullabye baby blues by Keb Mo and maybe even you are my sunshine, I know it’s a bit over the top ridiculousness but admit it, everyone hums along ….
